The challenge
A UAE metal-products manufacturer.
A metal-products manufacturer relied on one Sophos firewall at its perimeter. It bought a new unit and wanted it to become the primary, with the existing unit kept as a standby so a single failure would not stop the plant's network.
What we delivered
Missan:
- Backed up the full configuration of the existing Sophos XGS 3100
- Restored it onto the new Sophos XGS 3100, which took over as primary
- Configured Active-Passive high availability between the new primary and the existing unit, and verified the heartbeat
- Validated firewall rules and traffic handling, and tested failover
- Wrote an HA standard operating procedure and trained the client's IT team on HA monitoring and backup and restore
The outcome
Rules and traffic handling passed validation, and the handover and training were completed in December 2024.
The business case
The perimeter firewall is no longer a single point of failure, the new hardware runs the proven rule set unchanged, and the in-house team has a written procedure for running the pair.
